Child Silhouettes

Our Mothers Day Child Silhouettes special has been well received by our clients. Those little profiles grow up way too fast! We are discussing silhouette sessions in our forum. Below we show our Mothers Day Promo and two diagrams of our light setup with a mini explanation. In our previous studio we had our lights mounted to a tracking system. We just moved so our tracking is not yet complete. However based on the diagram below we would have lights on each end of our track and actually point them both inward and down towards the subject. We found another great example online here -

You could also place the lights on each side on the floor as drawn below. In either case the ideas is that the lights will cross each other and cover the backdrop with the light. subject is after the lights. Meaning subject is between the lights and the camera. You are metering for the light on the drop. In most cases we shoot at F16 or F22 and all of our samples are shot at either aperture.

In this example below, our light (Alien Bee 800) is sitting on a super low tripod. They are on the floor and the subject is between the light and the camera. This is great for 3/4 or headshots for silhouettes. If doing full body then you need to have the subject standing on something to hide the light.
